Exclusive: One on One with Skip Holtz

We caught up with South Florida coach Skip Holtz this morning as his Bulls are getting ready to face Clemson tomorrow afternoon in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.  Holtz, who spent six years as an assistant at USC under his father Lou Holtz, is in his first year in Tampa after a successful stint at East Carolina.

South Florida is 6-6 this season.  Tomorrow’s game kicks off at noon at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.   Clemson is a three point favorite.  The game will be televised by ESPN.

ECU hires former Clemson assistant McNeill

Former Clemson assistant coach Ruffin McNeill will take over the head coaching duties at East Carolina. He will replace Skip Holtz (former USC assistant), who left ECU last week to take the South Florida job.

McNeill played at East Carolina in the late 70’s and he also served as an assistant coach there. He has been the at Texas Tech since 2000. He worked under Mike Leach and has been the Red Raiders defensive coordinator since 2007.  He also coached the team to a bowl win after Leach was fired last month.

Former Auburn coach Tommy Tubberville relieved McNeill of his duties when he was hired at Texas Tech earlier this month.

Former Clemson and USC assistant and current Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Stockstill was offered the Pirates job earlier this week, but he decided to turn it down and remain with the Blue Raiders.
