No upset this time…Kentucky surives in Columbia

Brian Richardson drives to the basket in Saturday's loss to Kentucky

USC fans packed the Colonial Life Arena Saturday night in hopes of a repeat of last season’s upset of then #1 ranked Kentucky, and of course, to  cheer on football coach Steve Spurrier and some of his players who were being honored at halftime.

The Wildcats, who handed the Gamecock football team one of its losses last season, made sure there was no post game celebration for Gamecock fans this time as they held on for a 67-58 win before 18,000 fans at the Colonial Life Arena .

USC overwhelms Elon 94-79 in season opener

Muldrow leads USC to win

Sam Muldrow led the way for USC with 20 points and 4 boards as the Gamecocks defeated Elon 94-79 Friday at the Colonial Life Arena to open the 2010 season.  The Gamecocks showed flashes of brilliance in the victory, but also displayed their youth and inexperience.  With a big lead in the second half USC stopped running their offense and forced bad shot after bad shot, allowing Elon to cut what was once a 28 point deficit down to 11 with just 4 minutes to play.
