USC bound Holloway suffers ankle injury

6-7 Murphy Holloway, who plans to enroll at USC this fall as a transfer from Ole Miss, suffered a sprained right ankle while working out earlier this week.  Holloway’s former AAU coach. Dion Bethea of Columbia said Holloway told him he had a high ankle sprain.   Currently Holloway has the ankle in a cast.

Holloway is not eligible to play this season with USC but can practice with the Gamecocks.

Holloway reconsidering USC option

Two sources said Monday night 6-7 forward Murphy Holloway is once again considering the option of going to USC this fall and paying his own way.  Holloway had decided to transfer to Clemson from Ole Miss but his former school would not release him to Clemson.  Holloway left Ole Miss to be closer to his family in Irmo.

Ole Miss denies Holloway’s appeal

6-7 forward Murphy Holloway has had his appeal to Ole Miss to be allowed to transfer to Clemson or USC denied. The decision was revealed today by an Ole Miss spokesman who did not elaborate.

Holloway made his appeal yesterday. The former Dutch Fork star left Ole Miss so that he could be closer to his family and his young daughter. He expected that Ole Miss would not release him to USC because it’s another SEC school, but he had planned to make the move to Clemson.

Ole Miss has not given a reason why it won’t allow Murphy to transfer to Clemson. Murphy can still attend either of the schools by paying his own way his first year. He has been released by Ole Miss to transfer to the College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Presbyterian, Winthrop or Costal Carolina.

6-7 Murphy Holloway of Dutch Fork, the 2008 state player of the year, said today he is transferring from Ole Miss so that he can be closer to his young daughter in Columbia and help out his family.  Holloway said he’s undecided about where he will transfer.  USC would be his first choice but Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy is not likely to release him to another SEC program.  Murphy said he would also be interested in transferring to Clemson.  The Tigers do have a scholarship available for this class.  Holloway made an immediate impact at Ole Miss as a freshman and then started every game this past season averaging over 10 points and 7 rebounds per game.  He will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season.
