The USC defense is hoping to rebound from its poor game against Auburn
USC secondary coach Lorenzo Ward announced Monday that Devonte Holloman will start at safety over D.J. Swearinger in Friday’s Chick-fil-A bowl against Florida State. According to Ward the decision was based on performance, notably in the Gamecocks SEC Championship game loss to Auburn.

Gamecocks want to give Spurrier another championship ride
The countdown continues to the SEC Championship game Saturday afternoon in Atlanta between USC and Auburn. In seperate interviews Thursday afternoon on SportsTalk First Edition, USC quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator GA Mangus and defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward gave their final views about the game from sides of the ball.
The secondary was all the talk at USC after Monday night’s practice. The Gamecocks’ pass coverage has been putrid in recent weeks, and now they’ll go the rest of the way without senior cornerback Chris Culliver. C.C. Whitlock will replace him, and Akeem Auguste is returning to the starting lineup replace DJ Swearinger at safety.

18th ranked USC will face 19th ranked Arkansas Saturday night at 7:00 in Columbia.
USC (5-2, 3-2 SEC) began preparations for its SEC battle with Tennessee (2-5, 0-4 SEC) by going to the indoor facility on Monday night due to the wet grounds at the Bluff Road practice fields.

The Gamecocks and Vols will meet Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. The game will kick at 12:21 p.m. and will be televised by the SEC Network. Dave Neal will have the play-by-play with Andre Ware as the analyst and Cara Capuano patrolling the sidelines.

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on this afternoon at 4:15 p.m.
The USC football team returned to the practice field Monday night. The defense focused on improving its work against the pass after being shredded by Kentucky quarterback last weekend.
