Four Clemson players make first-team All-ACC

Da'Quan Bowers is one of three defensive players on the first team

Four Clemson players, including three starters from the Tigers ACC leading scoring defense, have been named first-team All-ACC. The team was released by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association on Monday.

Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers, safety DeAndre McDaniel and defensive tackle Jarvis Jenkins, were all named first-team All-ACC from the Clemson unit that ranks ninth in the nation in scoring defense. Clemson had more first-team selections to the All-ACC defensive team than any other school.

It is the first time Clemson has had three first-team selections on defense since the 2000 season and the first time Clemson has had four first-team selections total since 2007.

Chris Hairston was the only Clemson player on offense to make first team All-ACC. Tight end Dwayne Allen was a second team selection.

Tigers have Lattimore, revenge on their minds

Clemson defense ready for USC challenge

Clemson was riding high last November after winning the ACC Atlantic Division Championship.  The Tigers were headed to their first ACC Championship game with a chance to win their first title since 1991.  All was good, except that the Tigers forgot to take care of business in Columbia.

USC beat up on Clemson last year 34-17 turning two costly Clemson turnovers into touchdowns.  The Gamecocks handled the Tigers up front rushing for 223 yards, 114 by Kenny Miles.  Stephen Garcia threw three touchdown passes.

Pondering Ponder and the sack attack

Tigers defense oustanding of late

As they prepare for Saturday night’s game at Florida State, Clemson players on both sides of the line have plenty to think about.  The defensive guys have to prepare for the ACC’s #2 scoring offense.  The Seminoles average nearly 34 points per game, and it’s a balanced attack…214 yards per game thru the air, 196 on the ground.  they are converting 50% of their their down attempts.

Quarterback Christian Ponder is third in the ACC in passing effeciency, but he has an elbow injury that required draining yesterday.  Of course, Ponder was injured in last year’s loss at Clemson when he attempted to tackle DeAndre McDaniel on an interception return.  The Clemson defense is playing at a very high level right now having allowed just four touchdowns over the last four games.  The Tigers lead the ACC in scoring defense at 17.6 points per game.

Dabo Swinney and company on Textile Bowl win vs. Pack

Dabo Swinney pointed the Tigers back in the winning direction Saturday

Shortly after his team’s 14-13 win over 23rd ranked N.C. State Saturday Dabo Swinney told a group of reporters that there is no rule against winning ugly.  He said the team has played a lot better and lost.

Essentially, it wasn’t pretty, but Dabo will take it.

There aren’t pictures next to your record, just a column for wins and losses.  It wasn’t stylish, but Swinney and the Tigers ended up on the right side of the column Saturday.
