One and done for USC at SEC Tournament

USC makes a quick exit from the SEC Tournament

USC’s visit to Atlanta was short lived. The Gamecocks lost 66-55 to Ole Miss in the opening round of the SEC Tournament Thursday ending what has been a tough third season for coach Darrin Horn. The team finishes the season with a 14-16 record. They lost nine of their final ten games down the stretch.

It was the same old story in this one: USC struggled with its shot and gave up a lot of uncontested shots in the paint. The team shot just 29 percent from the floor, 26 percent from 3-point land. Meanwhile the Rebels scored 30 points in the paint, about half of which came on dunk shots.

USC opened the game with a three-pointer by Bruce Ellington and Lakeem Jackson scored on the next possession to give the Gamecocks a 5-0 lead. The Rebels answered with a 17-0 run and never relinquished the lead from there.

Vols send Gamecock seniors out on a losing note 73-69

Sam Muldrow scores a career high 24 points in his last home appearance

Tennessee spoiled the Senior Night festivities for USC’s Sam Muldrow and Johndre Jefferson beating the Gamecocks  73-69 Thursday night at the Colonial Life Arena.  It’s the Gamecocks seventh loss in their last eight games, and it’s Tennessee’s 9th straight win over he Gamecocks.

USC falls to 14-14 overall and 5-10 in the SEC.   Tennessee improved to 18-12 and 8-7 in the league.

The Vols jumped out to a big first half lead shooting nearly 62% in the first 20 minutes.  They led 40-23 at the break.  USC shot shot just 31% in the first half.

Gamecocks break their streak with 79-73 win over Ole Miss

Eric Smith's efforts off the bench helped the Gamecocks end their losing streak

USC broke its five game losing streak Tuesday night with a 79-73 win over Ole Miss at the Colonial Life Arena.  It’s the Gamecocks first win since defeating LSU in Baton Rouge February 2nd, and its their first home win since January 19th against Arkansas.

USC improves to 14-12 and 5-8 in the SEC.  Ole Miss falls to 17-11 and 5-8 in league play.

Darrin Horn previews game at Kentucky

USC basketball coach Darrin Horn met with the media Friday to preview Saturday’s game at Kentucky.  The Gamecocks have dropped four straight and five of their past six.

The Gamecocks are 13-11 and 4-7 in the SEC.  The Wildcats won the first meeting in Columbia, 67-58.

Tomorrow’s game tips off at 4:00 at Rupp Arena.

Gamecocks hit the wall against Gators, fall 79-60

Brian Richardson finds his way to the basket blocked by a Florida defender

Florida added to its lead in the SEC East and avenged a January loss to USC with a     thumping of the Gamecocks Wednesday night at the Colonial Life Arena.  The Gators broke a two game losing streak to the Gamecocks and improved to 8-2 in the SEC, 19-5 overall.  The Gamecocks lost their second straight game and their third in a row at home.  They fall to 4-5 in the SEC and 13-9 overall.

The Gators jumped on the Gamecocks quickly scoring the first nine points.  USC didn’t break thru until Ramon Galloway hit a three with 14:35 left in the half.  Galloway, in fact, scored the Gamecocks first seven points.
