Alshon Jeffery, Da’Quan Bowers named FWAA All-American

USC sophomore wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and Clemson junior defensive end Da’Quan Bowers have been selected to the 67th Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All- America team

Jeffery set South Carolina school records in both receptions (79) and receiving yards in a season (1,387). He was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the nation’s top receiver and has been a unanimous first-team All-SEC selection.

Bowers led the nation in sacks with 15 1/2 this season.  He was named the ACC defensive player of the year.  He also won the Bronko Nugurski and Hendrix awards.

Clemson defense end Da’Quan Bowers announced on his Twitter account today that he’s been named the winner of the Ted Hendricks Award as the nation’s top defensive end.

Earlier Bowers was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the winner of the Bronco Nagurski award as the nation’s top defensive player in the country. 

Bowers, a junior from Bamberg-Ehrhardt, led the nation this season with 15.5 sacks. 

Bowers also is a finalist for the Lombardi Award, which will be announced tonight, and the Bednarik Award, which will be announced Thursday. 

Bowers also is being projected now as a top five pick for the NFL Draft in April.

Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers has been named the recipient of the Bronko Nagurski Award. The honor is presented each year by the Football Writers Association of America and the Touchdown Club of Charlotte to the top defensive player in the nation.

Bowers is the first Clemson player to win a national award of this magnitude since 1982 when Terry Kinard was named the CBS National Defensive Player of the Year.

The other finalists for the Nagurski Award were Nick Fairley of Auburn, Justin Houston of Georgia, Luke Kuechly of Boston College and Patrick Peterson of LSU.

Four Clemson players make first-team All-ACC

Da'Quan Bowers is one of three defensive players on the first team

Four Clemson players, including three starters from the Tigers ACC leading scoring defense, have been named first-team All-ACC. The team was released by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association on Monday.

Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers, safety DeAndre McDaniel and defensive tackle Jarvis Jenkins, were all named first-team All-ACC from the Clemson unit that ranks ninth in the nation in scoring defense. Clemson had more first-team selections to the All-ACC defensive team than any other school.

It is the first time Clemson has had three first-team selections on defense since the 2000 season and the first time Clemson has had four first-team selections total since 2007.

Chris Hairston was the only Clemson player on offense to make first team All-ACC. Tight end Dwayne Allen was a second team selection.

Da’Quan Bowers named AFCA All-American

Da'Quan Bowers could be a top five pick in the April NFL draft

Clemson defensive end Da’Quan Bowers has been named a first-team All-American according to the American Football Coaches Association. Bowers is the third Clemson player in the last five years named to the AFCA team. Gaines Adams was selected in 2006 and C.J Spiller was named last season.

Bowers leads the nation sacks with 15.5 and is second in tackles for loss with 25. His sack total is second in Clemson history for one season, best among defensive linemen. His tackle for loss total is the most by a Clemson defensive lineman since 1991 when Rob Bodine had 27. Bowers had a streak of nine straight games with a sack during this season, the longest streak in Clemson history.
