SportsTalk Rewind 3.21.12: Coastal’s Joe Moglia (AUDIO)

For the first time in 9 seasons, the Coastal Carolina football team will begin spring practice under the tutelage of a new head coach.  Last December Coastal decided to go in a different direction, and replaced inaugural head man, David Bennett, with Joe Moglia.  Moglia’s career on Wall Street by now is well-known, and after stints as an assistant at Nebraska, and as a head coach in the United Football League, Moglia takes over the Chanticleers as a first time college football head coach.

AUDIO: Joe Moglia [9:40]

Tonight was our first crack at Coach Moglia, who provided us with some insight into his football philosophy, what he expects from his players, and also how his tenure in the state has started off.  Coastal Carolina beings spring practice tomorrow.

SportsTalk Rewind 3.08.12: Clemson’s Dwayne Allen

Dwyane Allen seen here against Virginia Tech participated in pro-day workouts today

Today Clemson held its pro-day workouts for NFL coaches at the school.  Among the many Tigers who performed drills for NFL personnel was Clemson Tight End, Dwayne Allen.

AUDIO: Dwayne Allen [1:59]

Many NFL draft pundits questioned Allen’s 4.89 40 yard dash a couple of weeks ago.  Today Allen didn’t run the 40 in order to improve his time.  When asked about his decision not to run today, and the overall perception surrounding his .40 time Allen said, “I’m not a track guy, I’m a football player….if you watch me on film I play way faster, and that’s all that matters.”

Jets Head Coach, Rex Ryan, was a big name in attendance who took time to speak to Allen personally.

SportsTalk Rewind 3.07.11: Charleston Southern’s Jay Mills (AUDIO)

We continue to round out our hybrid of post-signing day and spring practice coverage of the major football programs around the state, tonight, with the Head Coach of the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, Jay Mills.

AUDIO: Jay Mills

The Bucs had a rough go of it in 2011, going winless.  Coach Mills was quick to point out the fact he had 57 kids on his roster that were either Freshman or Sophomores, and the added experience could potentially be quite the positive.  The number 57 popped up in a negative way for Coach Mills last year as well, something that he doesn’t believe will be an issue in 2012.  Coach Mills also says his guys have tested higher than any of his previous teams since he’s been on campus.

The Bucs will open up the 2012 season at The Citadel.
