USC leaves Music City with another SEC loss (AUDIO)

Bruce Ellington led USC with 15 points (file photo)

It was the same old song and dance for the USC basketball team in a 59-48 loss to Vanderbilt Wednesday night in Nashville. The Gamecocks managed to keep things close for a good portion of the game before the Commodores pulled away in the final eight minutes.

Vanderbilt had a below average shooting night, making just 4-16 (25%) from three and finishing with at 38% from the floor. If not for an even worse shooting night from USC (32%), the Dores very well could have gone down on their home floor.

Bruce Ellington led USC with 15 points. He hit three of his four 3-point attempts and was 5-13 overall. He also had four rebounds and four assist. Damien Leonard was the only other Gamecock to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points.

The Gamecocks return home to face Tennessee Saturday night. The Vols beat Ole Miss 73-60 Wednesday night.

Numbers don’t back Darrin Horn’s rhetoric as USC’s continues to slip

Darrin Horn is having a hard time winning in the SEC

An inspection of Darrin Horn’s SEC record at USC proves that Horn benefited greatly in his first year because of talented players he inherited, last second buzzer beaters, and a down SEC. The numbers also illustrate Horn’s inability to build on the talent he inherited and make headway in a conference that remains, sans a few teams, very mediocre. In fact, not only has Horn’s program failed to improve in conference play, they have become steadily less competitive over the course of the past three seasons.

Here’s the breakdown of the numbers:
