The bracket it set for this week’s SEC Baseball Tournament .  The tourney starts Tuesday in Hoover, Alabama and concludes with the championship game on Saturday afternoon.

USC is the number two seed in the tournament and is playing in Bracket Two which includes number three seed Florida, five seed Vanderbilt, eight seed Georgia and ten seed Auburn. In case you forgot, this year’s tournament includes tenteams. Previously only the top eight teams qualified.

By virtue of the two seed the Gamecocks get a bye in Tuesday’s first round. The Gamecocks will play Wednesday at a yet to be determined time against the lower seed winner of the Florida-Auburn game or Vandy-Georgia.

Bracket One if the tournament includes top seed LSU with a bye, number four seed Kentucky facing nine seed Ole Miss and six seed Arkansas playing seven seed Mississippi State.

It looks like CSS and SportsSouth will handle most of the television coverage until ESPN2 takes over for the title game.

Here is your link for the full printable bracket.

**Note, the first version of this story stated all 12 SEC teams were a partof the tournament.  The story has been corrected to 10 teams.

What we learned from spring games across the ACC/SEC

By: Brian Rauf

Clemson and South Carolina each finished up spring practices and held their spring games this past weekend, and SportsTalk has covered those in-depth.  14 other schools in the ACC or SEC have also held their spring games up to this point, and here are some highlights from those games and who your team may have to watch out for next season.

Vanderbilt – Team Black 33-0 Team Gold
Team Black absolutely dominated Team Gold in Vandy’s spring game where their offense looked explosive.  Returning starter Jordan Rodgers was at the helm of Team Black, completing 14-29 passes for 126 yards and threw 2 touchdowns to wide out Jordan Matthews, who had 7 rec, 105 yards.

Georgia – Red Team 32-31 Black Team
The Bulldogs played their spring game in front of 44,000+ fans, but the game was sloppy.  Two-year starting quarterback Aaron Murray struggled for the Red Team, completing 7-17 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown.  Tailback Ken Malcome led the Red Team with two rushing touchdowns, but only ran for 32 yards.

Florida – Blue Team 21-20 Orange Team
Gator fans at the Swamp got to see a hard-fought game, but everyone was focused on the quarterback play.  Both Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel are trying to replace John Brantley, and head coach Will Muschamp had each play some for both teams.  Driskel completed 12-14 passes for 147 yards and ran for 1 TD, while Brissett went 9-16 for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Presidents leak word that USC-Texas A&M will play yearly on gridiron

The SEC still hasn’t said anything, but if you listen to the presidents at USC and Texas A&M, it’s a done deal that the two schools will play each other each year in football.

USC Prez Harris Pastides was on the radio Saturday afternoon prior to the USC-Clemson baseball game in Columbia when he confirmed the rumor that USC’s new permanent SEC West opponent will be Texas A&M.

This certainly was news, but it had to be taken with a grain of salt considering Pastides information regarding the newly expanded SEC has not always been spot-on. Shortly after the league announced its new members Pastides told the Daily Gamecock the conference would be shifting to a nine game schedule. The SEC quickly repudiated that information, making it clear they planned to continue with an eight game conference slate.

But it looks like Pastides wasn’t speaking out of turn, well, he may have been speaking out of turn because the SEC still hasn’t released any of this, but at least he was right this time. Texas A&M President R. Bowen Loftin revealed, on Twitter of places, that the Aggies and Gamecocks are new SEC rivals.

@aggieprez Just had a great conversation with the South Carolina president about our permanent SEC rivalry. We will make this very special! #SEC #WHOOP

Again, the SEC has yet to officially announce this, but it certainly looks to be a done deal. This means Arkansas will come off the Gamecocks permanent schedule beginning in 2013.

SEC writer Clay Travis predicts Missouri will pick up Arkansas as its permanent West foe. This means the other traditional rivalries like Alabama-Tennessee and Georgia Auburn will remain in place. Travis also expects the other non division games will rotate on a yearly basis so teams play the other division foes once every six years.

Damontre Harris makes SEC’s All-Defensive team

Damontre Harris blocked 70 shots this season

The SEC announced its postseason basketball awards today. As you might expect from a team that finished 2-14 in the conference, USC did not have a lot of representation. No Gamecock’s made the first or second team All-SEC squads, and no one made the All-freshman team either. The Gamecocks weren’t shutout though Damontre Harris made the All-Defensive team.

Harris, a sophomore, blocked 70 shots this season, second most in the SEC.  He also averaged 5.6 rebounds per game.

You can take a look at all of the awards by following this link. Below are the individual honors.

Bruce Ellington's last second shot beat Alabama earlier this season

The bracket is set for the 2012 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, which will be held March 8-11, in New Orleans, La., with games to be played at the New Orleans Arena. South Carolina (10-20, 2-14 SEC) is the No. 12 seed in the event and will play No. 5 seed Alabama (20-10, 9-7 SEC) in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, March 8 at 3:30 p.m. ET, with the game to be televised on the SEC Network.

The meeting will mark the sixth between South Carolina and Alabama in the SEC Tournament, with the Crimson Tide holding a 3-2 advantage in the series at the event. South Carolina won the 2012 regular season meeting between the two schools, 56-54, with the Gamecocks earning the victory on a last second layup by sophomore guard Bruce Ellington.
