USC moves up in all three major baseball polls

Things are coming together at the right time for USC

USC’s 11 game SEC win streak is resulting in a steady accent in the latest college baseball polls.

USC (33-11) is up to third in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll. Florida State is the top team, followed by Baylor. Last week the coaches had USC ranked fourth.

Baseball America has the Gamecocks fifth this week, up two spots from a week ago. Florida State, Kentucky, Baylor and LSU are the four teams in front of them.

Collegiate Baseball moved USC up three spots to fourth in its latest ranking. Baylor is the top team in that poll, with Florida State and Kentucky holding the second and third spots respectively.

Coastal Carolina also cracked this week’s Collegiate Baseball poll. Last week the Chanticleers won at Clemson and swept Liberty. They are 30-13 and ranked 24th in the poll.

Weekend rivalry series does little to USC and Clemson poll numbers

USC and Clemson's collision on the field didn't affect the polls much

Winning two of three against Clemson wasn’t enough to move USC in either of the two major baseball polls Monday. The Gamecocks remain second in the Collegiate Baseball ranking and third in the Baseball America poll. Carolina is 9-1, its lone loss coming Sunday at Clemson.

Meanwhile, after dropping two of three to USC, Clemson is 5-4. The Tigers remain 15th in Collegiate Baseball this week, but they fell five spots to 20th in the Baseball America poll.

Florida remains the top team in both polls. Perhaps the biggest story in this week’s polls is Maryland cracking the Baseball America top 25 for the first time in school history. The Terps are 9-1 and ranked 25th in the BA ranking. The turtles are 21st in Collegiate Baseball’s poll.

USC will play host to UNC Asheville Wednesday night. The Gamecocks will play their final non-conference weekend series against Princeton beginning Friday night.

Clemson is at home against Holy Cross Wednesday, and will open ACC play against North Carolina this weekend. The Tar Heels are ranked 8th in Baseball America and 6th in Collegiate Baseball. That series begins Friday afternoon at 4:00 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
