Bellamy finds a home for this football season

Former Clemson running back Mike Bellamy will play the 2012 season at East Mississippi Junior College according to the Tampa Tribune’s Greg Auman who cited the school’s coach for the information.

The highly touted Bellamy was academically ineligible to remain at Clemson following the spring semester. 

Bellamy will have two years of eligibility for major college football beginning in 2013 if he successfully completes the academic work at the junior college.

Clemson dominates Phil Steele’s Preseason 1st team Offense

One of the most prestigious college football preview publications in the country is “Phil Steele’s College Football Preview”.  He recently released his Preseason All-ACC team, and the Clemson Tigers dominate the list on the offensive side of the ball, representing 1/3 of the first team.

First Team All-ACC on Offense include: RB Andre Ellington; WR Sammy Watkins (who also is the first team kick returner); WR Deandre Hopkins; and C Dalton Freeman.

Quarterback Tajh Boyd represents the Tigers on the 2nd team offense.  Tight End Brandon Ford is represented on the 3rd team, and Tackle Brandon Thomas rounds out the 4th team on offense.

On Defense, the loan representative on the first team for the Tigers is DE Malliciah Goodman.  Sophomore Linebacker, Stephone Anthony, is on the 2nd team.  Another Linebacker, Corico Hawkins, is on the 3rd team, and Safety Rashard Hall rounds out the 4th team Preseason All-ACC defensive team.

 

 

Clemson puts four on All ACC Baseball Team

Florida State senior outfielder James Ramsey and NC State freshman pitcher Carlos Rodon lead the 2012 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

Ramsey, who led the Seminoles to the Atlantic Division title and the No. 1 seed in this week’s ACC Championship at Greensboro’s NewBridge Bank Park, was selected as the conference Player of the Year in a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.

Rodon, who posted a 9-0 record on the mound to help the Wolfpack to the No. 3 overall seed in the ACC Championship, was voted both ACC Pitcher and ACC Freshman of the Year.

Coach of the Year honors went to Florida State’s Mike Martin for the seventh time. Martin became the third coach in NCAA Division I history to post at least 1,700 career wins while guiding the Seminoles to the Atlantic Division title, a 43-12 overall record and a No. 1 national ranking for several weeks late in the regular season. Florida State became just the third team in ACC history to post 24 league wins in a season.

Clemson draws UVA, FSU and Georgia Tech at ACC Tournament

Clemson has three tough games ahead

Pairings and game times have been set for the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship, which will be held from Wednesday, May 23 through Sunday, May 27, at NewBridge Bank Park.

As the No. 1 overall seed, Atlantic Division champion Florida State (43-12, 24-6) will be placed atop Pool A and will be joined by No. 4 Virginia (36-16-1, 18-12), No. 5 Clemson (32-24, 16-14) and No. 8 Georgia Tech (33-24, 12-18).

Coastal Division champion North Carolina (42-13, 22-8) is the No. 2 seed and will be joined in Pool B by No. 3 NC State (38-15, 19-11), No. 6 Miami (34-19, 16-14) and No. 7 Wake Forest (32-22, 13-17).

All eight teams in this year’s ACC Championship field are ranked among the top 40 of the most recent NCAA RPI report. Florida State held a No. 1 national ranking in two major national polls last week, while North Carolina was ranked as high as No. 7, NC State as high as No. 13, Virginia as high as No. 19 and Miami as high as No. 21.

Under the pool-play format, each team will play one game against each of the other three opponents in its division Wednesday-Saturday (May 23-26). The two teams with the best records within their respective division brackets will advance to the title game on Sunday, May 27, with the winner earning the ACC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Play begins on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Florida State facing Georgia Tech. NC State meets Miami at 3 p.m., followed by North Carolina vs. Wake Forest at 7 p.m.

Virginia and Clemson swing into action with the 11 a.m. game on Thursday. North Carolina faces Miami at 3 p.m., followed by NC State vs. Wake Forest at 7 p.m.

On Friday, Virginia faces Georgia Tech in the 11 a.m. opener. Florida State plays Clemson at 3 p.m., followed by Miami vs. Wake Forest at 7 p.m.

Saturday will see Clemson face Georgia Tech at 11 a.m. Florida State meets Virginia at 3 p.m., and North Carolina meets NC State at 7 p.m.

Sunday’s Championship game is set for 12 noon.
