Dwayne Allen had two touchdown receptions for the Tigers
Here is the quick recap of the third quarter of the ACC Championship game between Clemson and Virginia Tech at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte:
- The fourth quarter started with Clemson in possession and driving in Virginia Tech territory. The Tigers didn’t waste any time punching in another score to go up 38-10 and send the Hokie fans scrambling for the exits. Tajh Boyd scored the touchdown on a one yard sneak.
- Virginia Tech’s next drive ended when Jonathan Meeks intercepted a Logan Thomas pass at the Clemson ten yard line. Meeks returned the pick all the way to midfield where the Tigers offense took over.
- The Clemson offense played things conservatively on its ensuing possession. After three straight runs they punted it back to Virginia Tech.
- The Hokies next drive started on its own 20 yard line. They moved the ball deep into Clemson territory before Thomas was intercepted again. Bashaud Breeland intercepted the pass on the Tigers’ two yard line and returned it 64 yards to the Hokies 34 yard line. It was the longest interception return in ACC Championship game history.
- Clemson inserted backup quarterback Cole Stoudt and ran the ball and the clock before turning the ball over on downs at the Hokie 21 yard line with 1:51 left in the game.
- Virginia Tech picked up just three yards on four plays, turning it back over to Clemson on downs.
- From there the Tigers went to the victory formation and ran out the clock.
