USC started the fourth quarter with the ball. The Gamecocks converted a fourth down play on a fake punt to keep the drive going. They ran the same fake they used in the Georgia game earlier this season, with Melvin Ingram scrambling for the first down. Ingram scored on the play against Georgia. The conversion paid off later in the possession when Alshon Jeffery snagged a 32 yard touchdown pass from Connor Shaw. Jeffery, a potential first round NFL draft pick, returned to the sidelines with fans chanting, “One more year!” USC led 34-13.
The Citadel answered the score on its next possession. The Bulldogs went 58 yards in 12 plays, scoring on a 12 yard touchdown run by Ricky Anderson. That made it 34-20 with 3:46 left to play.
USC recovered an onside kick attempt and started its next drive in Bulldog territory. The Gamecocks went 38 yards for a touchdown on a drive that ended with a 20 yard touchdown pass from Connor Shaw to Rory “Buster” Anderson. That gave USC a 41-10 lead.
FINAL SCORE: USC 41, The Citadel 20
