SportsTalk Rewind 11.30.11: North-South All Star Game Coaches (AUDIO)

The South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association “North-South All Star Game” will be played December 10th, 2011, at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.  The game pits some of the of the best high school athletes across the state against one another.  Tonight we welcomed in Head Coach of the North squad, David Berry of Blackville-Hilda High School; and  Head Coach of the South squad, Jeff Cruce, of Cane Bay High School.  The two discuss what they expect from the entire week experience in Myrtle Beach, and of course, talk a little football.

SportsTalk Rewind 11.30.11: USC’s Lorenzo Ward (AUDIO)

USC’s defense is coming off of a dominant performance in the Gamecocks 34-13 victory over the Clemson Tigers on Saturday.  Clemson only managed 153 total yards of offense in the big game and Tiger Quarterback, Tajh Boyd, was sacked 5 times.  Earlier today USC Defensive Coordinator, Lorenzo Ward, sat down on SportsTalk ”First Edition” and discussed his defenses’ performance over the weekend.  Up for discussion were the infamous “Tajh Tweets”, and their motivation on his front 4; the play of Sammy Watkins; and some insight on which of his juniors are likely to return next season, as well as those who could possibly bolt for the NFL.

Recruiting Report 11.30.11

Gaffney WR Quinshad Davis has landed an offer from Tennessee according to Indians coach Dan Jones. That’s his fourth offer to go along with ones from NC State, Wake Forest and Illinois. Clemson and USC are also showing interest in the Shrine Bowl selection.

Clemson was scheduled to visit today with RB Keith Marshall of Raleigh.  Florida is on Thursday, USC Friday and Georgia Sunday.  He announces Tuesday at 2:45 at his school.

Class of 2013 QB Connor Mitch (6-2 215) of Raleigh has offers from North Carolina, NC State and East Carolina and is hearing from Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Maryland and Mississippi State. “I camped at Clemson this summer and I loved the campus,” Mitch said. “It was a good camp. They have great facilities.” After leaving the camp, he drove through Columbia to take a look at the USC campus. He went on to say that he is interested in all schools showing interest in him. Mitch was in attendance for the Alabama-LSU game this season and left with a good impression. “It was an amazing atmosphere,” he said. “I can’t describe how great it was. I talked to coach (Chris) Rumph after the game and he told me he had enjoyed watching me play. I had a good time there.” He also attended games at East Carolina, UNC, NC State, Maryland, Florida and Florida State. As a junior, the quarterback threw for over 3900 yards, had 51 touchdowns through the air and another four on the ground. Mitch does not have any favorites.

Clyde Wrenn remembers Chester McGlockton (AUDIO)

Former Clemson recruiting coordinator Clyde Wrenn visited with SportsTalk this evening to share his memories of Chester McGlockton.

McGlockton, who was a defensive tackle on Clemson’s 1991 ACC championship team, died Tuesday night of an apparent heart attack. He was 42 years old.

Chad Holbrook visits SportsTalk

USC assistant coach Chad Holbrook stopped by SportsTalk First Edition today to talk about the upcoming Gamecock baseball season and the 2012 recruiting class.

Holbrook was named the 2011 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year. He has been tabbed as one of the top recruiters in all of college sports by ESPN The Magazine.

The Gamecocks are looking defend their back-to-back national championships on the diamond. South Carolina’s season starts on February 17th.

Carolina put together a recruiting class in 2011 that was received the top ranking by Collegiate Baseball and was tabbed as the 6th-ranked class by Baseball America.
