Tony Morrell of TheBigSpur.com reported Thursday night suspended USC quarterback Stephen Garcia is seeking help for “alcohol issues”. Morrell reported that he had been told Garcia came forward Thursday and asked for help.
Morrell wrote that he does not know what the extent of the treatment will be but he added that some form of rehab is probably the only way Garcia returns to the team this summer.

Hopefully this young man gets his life together. I thought he was a punk with his off field issues his freshman year then I met the kid and he couldn’t have been nicer. I mean so likable I pull for him every Saturday except one because I attended UGA on an athletic scholarship. I seriously hope gets the help he needs to turn things around by this fall. The South Carolina fan base deserves a winner based on loyalty alone. This is his absolute last chance and I hope he makes the best of it. Adios- KF
Good for Stephen!! I have been concerned for some time that Stephen might have been dealing with all of the tremendous pressures that are on him, and all of the rest of our student athletes, by using alcohol as a “stress reliever” or/and a means of escape from all of the expectations that we put on these young men and women. I hope that the entire Gamecock Nation will offer him all of the support and encouragement that he will need to overcome this obstacle in his young life. This is a big problem that many of our young people face in dealing with the pressures from school and their peers while they are striving to attain a college education while living away from home and the watchful eyes of mom and dad. It’s hard enough to get through college life while being a “regular” kid, much less a kid with all of the pressure of being the QB of a SEC football team that is expected to suddenly be a favorite in it’s conference and possibly even a contender for a BCS bowl game….and its not even summer yet!!! As person who has had to overcome the problems that alcohol can interject in one’s life, I can only say that I am praying for Stephen and hoping that this is a major turning point in his young life. This could turn out to be the best thing that happens to him while he is at Carolina. If Stephen can tackle this problem, I really do believe that his present and future life will turn out much better than even he could ever imagine. Good luck Stephen!!! We are all pulling for you!!!!
I do think its a good thing that he is asking for help, and he should be given it. However, his time at Carolina should be over in regards to football. I have been a life-long Carolina fan and will suffer whatever the consequences maybe without Garcia, but if the University wants to have any remaining credability Mr. Garcia needs to go. His repeated run-ins make me suspicious of what he got away with way before he came to Carolina. Too much is attribute to kids being kids. This is a lack of being taught the difference between right and wrong.
