Bowers a finalist for Hendricks Award

The Ted Hendricks Foundation is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2010 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award. Nineteen players received votes in the preliminary round this season. Six have advanced to the final ballot.

This year’s finalists are as follows:

DA’QUAN BOWERS – CLEMSON 6’4” 275 lbs JR

Bowers, an AFCA first-team All-America selection, leads the FBS with 15½ sacks – a total that ranks second in Clemson history. An additional sack in postseason play will move Bowers into third place all-time in ACC single -season history, and will be the highest conference total since 1996. Bowers also ranks second in FBS tackles-for-loss with 24½. In the Tigers’ 12 games this season, Bowers recorded five multiple -sack games and a season-high three against Maryland. He was named first-team All-ACC this week and is also a finalist for the Lombardi, Bednarik and Nagurski Awards.

Parkers plan lawsuit against website

The father of Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker said Tuesday afternoon he his planning to file a lawsuit against the website TigerIllustrated for its report about his son’s academic status.

Carl Parker said he’s  received legal counsel and feels the website violated the Federal Education Privacy Act when it reported Monday that his son “is in significant danger of being ruled academically ineligible for the bowl game.”  

At a news conference Tuesday, Kyle Parker said he is not ineligible for the bowl game and plans to play in the game. 

Carl Parker said the report was “printed without confirmation, with malicious intent and for financial gain.  They were negligent in their duties.” 

The website is part of Rivals.com which is owned by Yahoo.

As we wrap up the month of November, Phil headed to Tigertown as Clemson hits the hard court tonight in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge.  They will host Michigan at 9:00.  Kyle Parker cleared some things up this afternoon and USC gets ready for Auburn.

Recruiting Report 11.30.10

Tuesday’s in home meeting between Alabama coach Nick Saban and South Pointe DE Jadeveon Clowney did not take place because bad weather prevented Saban from flying in. That visit is now scheduled for Wednesday.

TE Jay Rome (6-6 240) of Valdosta, GA and his family met Monday night with Clemson recruiter Danny Pearman and he set an official visit date with the Tigers for January 28th, thought his father said they are going to try to go earlier, maybe January 14th, if they can work it in around the basketball schedule. “The visit went well,” said Rome’s father, former Clemson football and basketball star Stan Rome. “He wanted to make sure we were going to make an official visit and wouldn’t make a decision before the visit. We talked about the tight end position and the number of catches there and the fact he’s coached tight ends that are in the NFL.” Rome and his father was at Georgia Saturday and will make an official visit there December 10th. Jay Rome has stated Georgia and Alabama are out front. His father said he hasn’t told him that but he knows that “Clemson is still in the picture.” Tennessee is the fourth school under consideration. Rome’s season ended last Friday night. He finished the year with 46 catches for 596 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Kyle Parker talks to media for the first time since his benching

In a matter of weeks Kyle Parker has gone from Clemson hero to whipping boy

Kyle Parker spoke to the media Tuesday to address a variety of topics, including why he skipped out on talking to the media, his alleged altercation with Dabo Swinney and if he is going to remain on the team during the bowl game.

 Parker opened by addressing why he opted not to speak with the media following the Tigers 29-7 loss to USC Saturday night.

“First of all I want to apologize I didn’t come and talk to anyone after the game,” Parker said.  To be quite honest with you, I felt I couldn’t have said anything to make the situation any better.  I thought the questions I was going to get asked and the explanations that I was feeling at the time wouldn’t have done anyone justice or really done good for anyone, including myself.”
