Charleston Southern lands game with Georgia

Charleston Southern and Georgia have agreed on a contract that will set up the first ever gridiron meeting between the two schools.  The Bucs will visit Sanford Stadium on November 24th 2014.

Charleston Southern will be well compensated for the trip to Athens.  UGA will pay the Bucs a reported 450,000 dollars for the game.

Charleston Southern is no stranger to hostile SEC environments.  Last season the Bucs faced Florida, losing 62-3 in the Swamp.  I’m sure that game was a lot closer than the score indicated…

Georgia also announced it has added Georgia Southern to its 2016 scehdule.

Braves inch closer to postseason

The Braves moved closer to the postseason Wednesday with a 5-1 win over the Marlins.  The win keeps them a game and a half ahead of San Diego for the National League wild card.  The Padres also won Wednesday, 3-0 over the Cubs.

The Braves magic number to clinch a postseason berth is three.

Atlanta is off tonight and will close out the regular season this weekend with a home series against the N.L. East champion Phillies.  San Diego will wrap up its series with the Cubs tonight before closing the season with a series at N.L. West leading San Francisco.

Garcia tries to shrug off latest adversity

Stephen Garcia is usually Steve Spurrier's favorite target

For the first time since being benched at Auburn, USC quarterback Stephen Garcia spoke to the media Wednesday. Steve Spurrier has announced Garcia will be his starting quarterback next week against Alabama, although the Head Ball Coach has done anything but give his junior signal caller a vote of confidence.

AUDIO: Stephen Garcia

Garcia, for his part, is taking everything about as well as you could expect.  He is no stranger to being on the receiving end of Spurrier’s wrath.

“I don’t think anyone will ever get used to that,” Garcia said.  It definitely hurt.  I didn’t really like that happening, but that’s what happened.  I can’t fumble twice so that’s the main reason he took me out.  I just got to play better and play smarter.”

Garcia told reporters that he is still confident he can lead the team and have a successful season.

“We are going to be just fine,” Garcia said.  We’ve got a nice bye week this week to get ready for Alabama and we’ll be prepared for them.”

The Gamecocks will practice again today and then take the rest of the weekend off.
