Dorman and Byrnes ranked nationally

I think we can safely assume there is going to be some pretty good high school football played in Spartanburg this season.  Dorman is ranked 10th in the RivalsHigh.com preseason top 100 poll.  Byrnes  is ranked 25th in the poll.  The only other Palmetto State team that made the poll is Northwestern (74).

The poll will release its number one team on Monday.

Dorman is also ranked 20th in the National Prep Football preseason poll.  Byrnes is number 61 in that poll.

Cavaliers coach Dave Gutshall is taking the preseason accolades in stride.  He gave the obligatory “we aren’t worried about the rankings” response to Kevin Melton of the Spartanburg Herald Journal:

“I haven’t heard the kids talk about it, and we haven’t talked to them about it,” he said. “We haven’t made an issue of it. We’ve just been staying focused on teaching the fundamentals.”

Last season Dorman defeated Byrnes for the 4-A Division 1 state title.
