Former Clemson All-American golfer Lucas Glover fired a five under par 67 in the first round of the British Open on Thursday. Glover stands in a tie for eighth place with Tiger Woods, among others, after the first round.
Rory McIlroy leads the tournament at nine under par.
Glover’s day included seven birdies, five of which came on the back nine. The native of Greenville, SC made birdies on 3, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15 and 18th holes. He shot a 37 on the front side and a 32 on the back.
Glover’s 67 was the lowest ever by a former Tiger at the British Open. The previous best was a 68 by D.J. Trahan at the 2009 British Open at Turnberry.
Glover now has the low round by a former Tiger at the US Open, the PGA and the British Open. Glover shot a 64 in the second round of the 2009 US Open at Bethpage Black and went on to win the championship. He shot a 66 in the opening round of the 2006 PGA at Medinah and went on to finish 46th.
Columbia native and former Coastal Carolina standout Dustin Johnson finished his opening round at three under par.
