Clemson baseball ACC Tournament game notes

Our coverage of this year’s ACC Tournament is underway.  We will be live in Greensboro and keep you updated with stories and pictures and information throught the week.  Be sure to check the site early and often for the latest. 

Below are the Clemson game notes for the ACC Tournament:

Clemson (39-17), the #2 seed and champion of the ACC Atlantic Division, will open its ACC Tournament slate by playing #7-seed N.C. State (36-20) on Wednesday at 8:00 PM on the first day of the ACC Tournament. The Tigers will be the designated home team and occupy the third-base dugout.

After a day off on Thursday, the Tigers will play #6-seed Virginia Tech (36-19) on Friday at 4:00 PM. Clemson will be the designated visiting team and occupy the first-base dugout in that game.

Clemson’s third game will be against #3-seed Georgia Tech (44-11) on Saturday at 4:00 PM. The home team for Saturday’s game will be determined by a coin flip. All three of Clemson’s games in the ACC Tournament will be televised live by Fox Sports South.

The games will be played at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC. It will be the first time the ACC Baseball Tournament is held in Greensboro. The round-robin format, in its fourth year, features two separate four-team divisions that guarantees all eight teams will play a minimum of three games and maximum of four games during the ACC Tournament.

The other division is comprised of #1-seed Virginia, #4-seed Miami (FL), #5-seed Florida State, and #8-seed Boston College. The winner of each division will meet in the ACC Championship Game on Sunday at 1:00 PM. The contest will be televised live by SportSouth and the winner of the game will receive an automatic bid into the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

State players sweep SOCON baseball honors

Media covering the Southern Conference voted Matt Leeds of the College of Charleston as the league’s Player of the Year, The Citadel’s Asher Wojciechowski as the Pitcher of the Year, Furman’s Will Muzika the Freshman of the Year, and The Citadel’s Fred Jordan as the Coach of the Year.

Young out as Clinton High football coach

Long time Clinton High School football coach Andy Young will not return to that position this fall. The Laurens County School District 56 Board of Trustees voted last night 4-3 not to retain Young who has been the Red Devils head coch since 1993 and who led the team to a state championship last season. The school’s adminiatration had recommended to the board that Young be retained. Young had a 154-61 record at Clinton.

One Gamecock named first team All-SEC

USC’s Blake Cooper is the only Gamecock named to the first team of the coaches All SEC baseball team released today. Jackie Bradley Jr. and Matt Price were named to the second team. Price along with Christian Walker and Evan Marzilli are Gamecocks named to the All Freshman Team, and Bradley and Scott Wingo were named to the All Defensive Team. Hunter Morris of Auburn is the Player of the Year, Drew Pomeranz of Ole Miss is the Pitcher of the Year, Austin Maddox of Florida is the Freshman of the Year and Kevin O’Sullivan of Florida is the coach of the year.
