There is a lot happening in the college basketball coaching world these days. The dominos are already beginning to fall in what should be a busy offseason of coaching moves.
First, former USC assistant and Auburn head coach Jeff Lebo is the new head coach at East Carolina. Lebo worked at USC under former Gamecock coach Eddie Fogler. He was fired at Auburn after the SEC tournament. He spent six seasons with the Tigers and finished with a 96-93 record there.
Auburn has not named a replacement, although another former Gamecock assistant is rumored to be in the mix. That would be Minnesota coach Tubby Smith, who worked at USC under George Felton. He’s already had two stops in the SEC, one at Georgia and one at Kentucky, where he won a national title.
There is another job opening that has a candidate with USC ties. Former USC head coach Dave Odom has been linked to the opening at Charlotte and UNC-Wilmington. Odom is 67 years old and retired at USC following the 2008 season.
Former Clemson coach Larry Shyatt is also being mentioned as a potential candidate for the Charlotte job.
Citadel coach Ed Conroy is also a candidate for the UNC-Wilmington job. Conroy has been on the Bulldogs bench for the past four seasons. He lead the program to its first 20 win season and postseason appearance in 2008. The team finished last season with a 17-16 record.
