Conference tournaments next for Clemson, USC

The regular season for Clemson and USC and now the attention will turn to their respective conference tournaments. Clemson needs a win or two to ensure its place in the NCAA tournament and secure the best possible seeding. USC needs to win at least one game in the SEC tournament to lock up a .500 record and improve its chances of making the NIT.

The ACC tournament is in Greensboro, NC this week. Clemson’s loss to Wake Forest Sunday dropped the Tigers all the way to the 6th seed. That means they will play NC State Thursday night at 9:00.

The winner of the Clemson-NC-State game will play three seed Florida State at 9:00 on Friday night. The Tigers beat NC State earlier this season in Raleigh and are 2-0 against Florida State this year.

At the SEC tournament in Nashville, the Gamecocks locked up the 5th seed out of the East by virtue of Saturday’s upset win against then19th ranked Vanderbilt. That means Carolina will face Alabama at 1:00 (EST) Thursday. The Gameocks loss to Alabama at home last week.

Should USC get by Bama they will have to face top seed Kentucky on Friday at 1:00. The Gamecocks beat the Wildcats in January and lost at Kentucky by 20 last month.
