Coastal Carolina and Winthrop are just one step away from clinching a spot in the NCAA tournament. They both won their semi-final games last night and will meet Saturday for the Big South tournament title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The Chanticleers advanced to the championship game with an easy 92-73 win over UNC-Ashville. The Chant’s took a 46-25 lead into the half and put it on cruise control in the second half of the route. Kierre Greenwood was one of five Coastal players that scored double digits. He led all scored with 17 points.
Winthrop moved into the title game with a tidy 61-46 win over Radford. Reggie Middleton, who somehow didn’t make first or second team all conference, led the Eagles with 16 points.
So tomorrow afternoon the Eagles and the Chanticleers will battle for the Big South’s automatic NCAA tournament bid. It could not have worked out better to have two local teams vying for the ticket to the dance. The action begins at 4:00 in Conway. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
