Darrin Horn upbeat for matchup with #18 UT

Darrin Horn met with the media today to preview Saturday’s game against #18 Tennessee at the Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks have lost two straight games and will need an unbelievable run to even think about the NCAA tournament, but Horn was as upbeat as I’ve seen him all season. Maybe the warmer weather has put him in a better mood.

Be sure to take a listen below to hear all of his comments leading into tomorrow’s game.

Darrin Horn pre Tennessee

Horn pre UT

Among the highlights of Horn’s comments:

  • He does not think the team is tired or running out of gas. He attributes the recent slide to mental lapses and breakdowns, not fatigue.
  • He is not concerned about Downey’s shooting percentage and doesn’t appear to be concerned with his Downey’s left ankle either. He pointed out it was only natural that Downey would come back to earth a bit after that incredible four game stretch.
  • He admitted Tennessee is a tough matchup for his team but added that a lot of teams in the SEC are “mismatches” for his squad this year.

The Gameocks enter tomorrow’s game at 14-11 and 5-6 in the SEC. The Vols are 19-6 and 7-4 in the conference. Tomorrow’s game tips of at 1:30.
