Tennessee finds a defensive coordinator

Kevin Steele

Clemson fans that were still sweating the rumors that Kevin Steele was going to bolt for Tennessee shortly after signing day can breathe easier. It looks like the Vols have finally found someone to run their defense next season. According to multiple reports Boise State defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox will be moving to Knoxville to join Derek Dooley’s staff.

Steele, a UT grad and former Vol assistant coach, almost took the defensive coordinators post there last month but had a last minute change of heart and decided to remain in Clemson. That didn’t stop the rumors from circulating that Steele was still thinking about leaving for the post shortly after signing day. The news of Wilcox taking the job will put that rumor to rest.

Want to hear another rumor involving Steele? Apparently Chan Gailey may be interested in bringing Steele onto his staff with the Buffalo Bills. It doesn’t look like Tiger fans need to sweat this one too much either though. CUTigers.com’s Roy Philpott has reported there is little chance of that scenario playing out.
