Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stocktill turned down an offer to become East Carolina’s new coach. The ECU job would have been a step up for Stockstill, a former Clemson and USC assistant coach, in that it’s in a higher profile conference and would have paid more. But Stockstill made the decision to stay in Murfreesboro for the most unselfish of reasons…the good of his current program. In a text message, Stockstill wrote: “It was not the right thing to do to this university, these recruits and players with only two weeks left (before Signing Day).
It’s a refreshing approach from a coach who knows that he can still get to where he might eventually want to get to from where he’s at now without sacrificing his integrity for a few measly bucks.
