The fourth day of preseason drills is in the books for South Carolina State, which worked out in shorts and shoulder pads for a second straight day.Bulldog head coach Buddy Pough said the team’s second day in waist up gear was not much different than the day before.
“We are making strides, slowly,” Pough said. “And, we are starting to get a few guys banged up a bit, but nothing major. We held a few guys out today, but it was more or less precautionary due to the heat.”
Among those sidelined were cornerback Phillip Adams, transfer offensive lineman Barry Humphries, and offensive tackle Johnny Culbreath. Freshman running back Rock King also remained out but will be evaluated on Tuesday and should be ready to return to workouts soon.
During Monday’s drill, SC State devoted sometime to field goals and continued its installations.
Pough said he liked the intensity the defensive line was showing
“The defensive line is one of the hardest positions to play,” he said. “You have to expend a lot of energy when you play this position, so you have to practice with the same intensity you will need in the game. Our guys are showing this.”
SC State is scheduled to put on full gear for the first time Tuesday. The workout gets underway at 3:10 p.m.
